Design competitions

Keen to learn a new skill?

Or to put your design expertise to the test?

For two years we hosted our FREE Design competition for high school students.

This was a great opportunity to get a taste for some of the tools and processes used at university.

In the competition, we walked students through the design process of coming up with a concept, and implementing it in CAD, using Fusion360 or Tinkercad. Learning design skills can give you a head start if you are considering pursuing an engineering degree at university.

We have provided online tutorials created by our own students at UoA to create a community of like-minded high school students.

The top submissions had the opportunity to come to the University of Auckland, were given a tour of the faculty and 3D printed their own designs in the University of Auckland’s 3D printing lab.

Plus the winner took home their own 3D Printer!
