Thinking about studying Engineering?

Engineering at the University of Auckland

A Bachelor of Engineering (Honors) at the University of Auckland is a four-year programme that teaches technical, practical and professional skills. All our bachelor degrees are accredited by Engineering New Zealand, meaning that they align with international benchmarks and are recognized worldwide. Engineering can be combined with many other degrees offered by the University to form a conjoint degree, allowing you to tailor your studies to your passions and interests even more. Within the engineering faculty, and the university as a whole, there is plenty of support and clubs for you to take advantage of and help you thrive!

Part I Engineering

In the first year of an engineering degree, known as Part I, all students take the same seven courses. This common first year provides a broad base of engineering and professional skills, as well as providing some experience with each of the ten specialisations on offer before you make a decision on the discipline you want to continue for the rest of your degree.

Students typically also take a general education paper during Part I, which can be chosen from the open and EMHSS schedules.

Specialisations

The University of Auckland offers 10 specialisations within a BE(Hons) degree. You can check out the Part II blogs to find out more about what our Part II (second year) students get up to in their specialisations, and check out our quiz to see which specialisation could be right for you.

Part IV Projects

As part of the final year (Part IV) of engineering you complete a research project, known as a Part IV Project. These are typically completed with a partner within the same specialisation or department. You can propose your own project if you have something within your field that you are passionate about that you want to research, or you can pick from a variety of projects within your department.
