WHAT’S IT LIKE?
Summer Start
Summer Start is a programme for new students to take
a credit-bearing course over summer, be mentored by current students, get to know the University in a smaller environment and enjoy a range of social, sporting and development activities.
There is range of course options including options specifically tailored for engineering pathways:
MATHS 102: Functioning in Mathematics: if you don’t meet our entry requirements, or are not sure if you’ll pass the required standards, we will accept passing MATHS 102 with an A- or higher as equivalent to meeting the Mathematics requirement.
PHYSICS 102: Basic Concepts of Physics: If you don’t meet our entry requirements, or are not sure if you’ll pass the required standards, we will accept passing passing PHYSICS 102 with an A- or higher as equivalent to meeting the Physics requirements.
Taking MATHS 102 or PHYSICS 102 can also help be better prepared for your degree. If you have already met the admission requirements for the BE(Hons) or are confident in your high school results, you might want to take one of these courses to experience university over the summer, or to ensure success in your BE(Hons). Note that achieving better grades in your first year of Engineering
will make you more likely to be accepted for your chosen specialisation.
ENGSCI 111: Mathematical Modelling 1: for Engineering students with a Fast Track offer who
are either starting a conjoint degree, or who have completed MATHS 199 (Max) at the University of Auckland with a B+ or higher.
ENGGEN 131: Introduction to Engineering Computation and Software Development: for
Engineering students with a Fast Track offer who have achieved a B+ average or higher in one of the following:
University of Canterbury STAR: MATH 199 (Advancing in Mathematical Sciences)
University of Waikato Unistart: ENGEN 101+ENGEN 102, or MATHS101+MATHS102, or
Massey University School: 160.101+160.102
